Manchester City 2 Górnik Zabrze 1

AT the Praterstadion in Vienna 1970, Manchester City beat Górnik Zabrze in the European Cup Winners’ Cup Final to win their first and only European title to date. Manchester City had qualified for the Cup Winners’ Cup after beating Leicester City in the 1969 FA Cup Final, whereas Polish side Górnik Zabrze had beaten Legia Warsaw in the respective 1969 Polish Cup Final.

It was only Manchester City’s second European campaign and they played the away leg first in every round. Along the way the Sky Blues had to get past Athletic Bilbao of Spain, Lierse of Belgium, Academica of Portugal and Schalke of Germany to reach the final.
