On this day in 1989, Scotland U16’s faced Saudi Arabia U16’s in the FIFA World Cup final at Hampden Park in front of a 50kstrong crowd. Despite going two goals to the good within 25 minutes the home side we’re pegged back to 2-2. Extra time couldn’t separate the two teams which meant the game was decided on spot kicks and Saudi Arabia we’re named World U16’s champions after winning 5-4 on penalties.
