Arsenal 2 Leeds United 2 1978

On the opening day of the 1978-79 season, managerless Leeds United travelled to Highbury to face Arsenal. Jimmy Armfield’s contract at Leeds United had not been renewed and with no manager in place Maurice Lindley steps in as caretaker boss for the day and earns a good away point. Jock Stein arrived soon after from Celtic but he only lasted just 44 days (just like Brian Clough) before he took the position of manager of the Scotland national team.
