Who remembers the excitement of tearing off the cellophane wrapping of your August edition of Shoot magazine to reveal the league ladders ahead of the new season?
Once removed from the semi-transparent packaging , the ladders would be carefully pinned to your bedroom wall, probably located next to the squad poster of your favourite team or a player poster that had been removed from earlier editions of your favourite football magazine, whether that be Match or Shoot.
The next step involved the painstaking task of removing all the team tabs before slotting them in position based on where you predicted them to finish at the end of the season. Once the season was underway, the weekly update of moving the tabs would take place with the help of the Sunday newspaper or next weeks Shoot. By October my early season enthusiasm for keeping the league positions updated may have waned slightly but the League ladders would remain in prime position for the remainder of the season, until replaced the following August.
