FA Cup Final 1990

The FA Cup in 1990 served up two classic matches in the semi-finals which saw goals galore between the four remaining sides. Crystal Palace knocked out the favourites Liverpool in a 4-3 seesaw game at Villa Park whereas the other finalists Manchester United battled out a 3-3 draw with Oldham Athletic at Maine Road. The Reds eventually triumphed 2-1 in the replay with the Latics which set up the final clash with the Eagles.

The FA Cup final didn’t disappoint either and provided goals in abundance with the balance of power going back and forth between the two sides. The underdogs Palace took an unexpected lead before United turned the tie around to go 2-1 in front but super sub Ian Wright turned the game on it’s head for a second time with a brace to put Palace back in front. With time ticking away, step forward United’s saviour in the form of Mark Hughes who saved the day for Alex Ferguson’s United with an extra time equaliser to make it 3-3 at the final whistle.

Manchester United went onto win the replay 1-0 a few days later but the first game will certainly live long on the memory and is arguably the greatest FA Cup finals of all time.
