Tottenham Hotspur walked out at White Hart Lane with the game all level after a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the UEFA Cup final. In Brussels, Paul Miller had put the Spurs one goal to the good before the Belgium side equalised with just minutes remaining through Anderlecht captain Morten Olsen. The second leg much like the first, a tight affair but the existing UEFA Cup holders took the lead in the second half through Czerniatynski but a late Graham Roberts equaliser sent the tie to extra time after a final 2-2 aggregate scoreline. The game went to penalties.
